Cardinal girls top Riverside

MEDICAL LAKE — The shoe was finally on the other foot for the Medical Lake girls’ basketball team last week.

The Cardinals ended a five-game losing streak dating back to Dec. 30 and earned their first Northeast A League victory 44-15 over Riverside, Jan. 21 on the road.

Medical Lake broke open what was an initially close game where they led just 7-6, outscoring the Rams 10-0 in the second quarter, and 18-3 in the third.

The fuel to the outburst was from a personnel shift.

“My starting point guard, Addison (Gardner) missed practice, so she didn’t play the first quarter,” head coach Yeta Holloway explained via a text message. “It took the team sometime to adjust to being in different roles.”

Back as a starter following halftime, Gardner would go on the lead her team in scoring with 18 points with Roslyn Lundberg adding eight.

“Everyone was back into their normal ‘comfortable’ roles,” Holloway added.

Medical Lake (1-1, 5-10) hosts Lakeside (1-1, 7-9), Jan. 31 at 5:45 p.m.
