Housing project moves into Phase II
CHENEY – The City Council unanimously approved the final plat for Golden Hills 6th Addition Phase II during its Jan. 14 meeting, allowing the project to move forward under strict guidelines.
Public Works Director Todd Ableman presented the resolution, which includes planning for vegetation and addressing dirt displacement, especially during heavy rains.
“When it comes to the hillside, it all comes to planning vegetation,” said Ableman. “We’ve noticed some dirt in places where there’s heavy rain.”
Ableman explained that the city has already contacted the concrete contractor hired by the city, WM Winkler’s engineers to inform them of the runoff.
Developers have a two-year window to complete all required improvements. After that, the city will assume responsibility for unfinished work. The resolution also ensures bonds are in place to guarantee quality.
“Within two years, if they don’t have their improvements done, it would come to us to take care of it,” Ableman informed the council.
Councilmember Paul Schmidt emphasized the importance of bonds to ensure quality. The motion passed unanimously, with council agreeing to continue discussions with the planning commission about development methods.
Councilman Paul Schmidt supported the motion, stressing the importance of balancing development flexibility and protecting city resources.
“This way, we’re putting everything in before we buy it,” Schmidt said. He also suggested continued discussions with the planning commission to explore alternative development methods.
The motion passed unanimously.
