Cardinal girls lose pair
COLVILLE — The Medical Lake girls started their Northeast A League schedule and concluded the non-league portion of play in the same manner with losses.
Medical Lake fell at Colville, 59-32, Jan. 16 in NEA play and then at Kettle Falls, Jan. 18, 52-30.
The Cardinals (0-1 NEA, 4-10 overall) never recovered from the 14-4 deficit in which they found themselves against the Crimson Hawks (1-0, 9-5). Bright spots for ML were the 10 points each from Adasha Gardner and Isabel Barry.
The scenario was similar at Kettle Falls which jumped to 15-7 first-quarter lead and were up 31-13 at halftime. The 10 points from Addison Hammel led the Cardinals.
Next up for Medical Lake is Riverside (0-0, 1-13) as the two teams met on the road, Jan. 21 and then in Medical Lake on Jan. 28.

Eastern men are back home
CHENEY — The Eastern Washington men will look to a return to Reese Court to help them back into the win column.
Following a pair of road losses, 74-64, Jan. 20 at Montana State and 83-76, Jan. 18 at Idaho, Eastern hosts Northern Arizona, Jan. 23 (6 p.m.) and Northern Colorado, Jan. 25 (2 p.m.) at Reese Court.
The Eagles (2-4 BSC, 6-13 overall) let a slim 31-29 halftime lead slip away to a cold-shooting second half where the Bobcats (3-4, 8-12) had a 45-33 edge.
Andrew Cook led the Eagles with 21 points, while Sebastian Hartmann (13) and Emmett Marquardt (11) both also finished in double figures.
Eastern trailed 38-26 at halftime to Idaho and was never fully able to catch up. They trimmed that deficit to as little as four points three times, but not down the stretch.
Mason Williams led the Eagles with 21 points, while Cook added 18. Nic McClain (13) and Emmett Marquardt (11) also scored in double figures.

Eagle women rally in fourth
CHENEY — A furious fourth-quarter rally was not quite enough for the Eastern Washington women as they fell to Big Sky Conference leading Montana State, Jan. 20 at Reese Court.
Eastern traveled to Moscow, Jan. 18 where they lost to Idaho, 67-57. Being outscored 18-10 in the second quarter ended up pivotal.
Ella Gallatin led the Eagles with 14 points, while Kourtney Grossman scored 11 and added 12 rebounds for a double-double. Grossman turned in another monster game, setting career-bests with 18 points and 19 rebounds against the Bobcats.
Eastern (2-4 BSC, 6-12 overall) returns to the road at Northern Arizona on Thursday (Jan. 23) and Northern Colorado on Saturday (Jan. 25).

Anderson named coordinator
CHENEY — Being patient has paid off for associate head coach Marc Anderson as he was named the new offensive coordinator for the Eagles.
Head Coach Aaron Best announced the promotion of Anderson who will enter his 14th year with the program in 2025. He also retains the associate head coach title.
Chad Germer also joins the staff as offensive line coach and recent Eagle tight end Austin York will make the move from student-athlete to coach as he takes over the tight end group for Anderson.
