Store raising civil rights awareness
CHENEY – Paperbound Books is a relatively new business on the Cheney scene, but already making strides to improve conditions locally.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a recognized federal holiday since 1968, was overshadowed this year by the coinciding presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump.
Nonetheless, the owner of Paperbound Books, Kate MacDonald, is raising awareness of racial inequality “in honor of Dr. King,” she says, and on behalf of the entire Cheney population.
“There is still so much to do in the fight for civil rights,” MacDonald said.
She said Cheney’s population is 30% non-white residents.
As Dr. King himself put it, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” and it seems that some members of this community have really taken this message to heart.
