European Child opens in Medical Lake

Morse opens new business

MEDICAL LAKE – The city has a new addition to its downtown charm. Kathleen Morse recently opened her boutique, The European Child, at 212 E. Lake St. The store offers unique clothing and accessories inspired by European fashion and from European makers.

“The clothes here are unique. Nobody else in the Inland Northwest has them,” said Morse. Her boutique carries hand-picked items from France, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, and more.

The boutique is housed in a 124-year-old building with a storied past, most recently as a veterinary office. Today, it’s a Parisian-inspired space with elegant décor.

In addition to the boutique, the property features an event area for baby showers and birthday celebrations. The rear section serves as an Airbnb for medical professionals, capitalizing on the nearby hospital and Medical Lake’s proximity to Spokane.

Morse’s journey to Medical Lake began last summer when she and her husband purchased a home and a rental property.

Though she splits her time between Medical Lake and Seattle for her real estate work, she prefers the charm of small-town living.

“I love Medical Lake. I’m even considering running for city council in a few years,” she shared.

The European Child isn’t Morse’s first venture into boutique retail. Thirty years ago, she operated a similar store in Kirkland, Washington.

“I’ve never forgotten it. This is my passion,” she said.

The boutique’s website is set to launch soon. In the meantime, visitors can enjoy the remodeled store, which blends old-world charm with modern style, offering one-of-a-kind European fashion pieces.
