Man charged with vehicular assault
SPOKANE – A suspected impaired driver was arrested after a near head-on crash on North Argonne Road near Doak Road on Jan. 5. The accident left a teenage passenger in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies say the driver, 56-yaer-old Raymond G. Jones, caused the collision and was booked into Spokane County Jail for vehicular assault.
Witnesses reported Jones driving erratically in a white Ford F150, swerving across lanes and crossing the centerline.
Near Doak Road, his vehicle collided with a southbound GMC Yukon carrying three people. A 17-year-old passenger in the Yukon was injured and transported to the hospital, while the two adult occupants were not hurt.
Jones admitted to deputies that he had been drinking before the crash, consuming whiskey and several beers. Authorities say they observed signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol and red, watery eyes.
Refusing to perform field sobriety tests, investigators had to obtain a warrant to test his blood alcohol levels.
Jones was booked into the Spokane County Jail, and the Superior Court set his bond at $25,000.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
