Woman dies in NYE collision
SPOKANE VALLEY – A fatal auto-pedestrian collision occurred on East Appleway Avenue near North Michigan Road on Dec. 31, claiming the life of a woman in her 60s.
Around 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Spokane Valley deputies responded to the crash near North Michigan Road, east of Barker Road, after receiving reports of the incident. The woman was crossing Appleway from north to south when she was struck by a 2000 Honda heading east.
The vehicle’s driver, a woman in her 70s, remained on-site and cooperated fully with investigators. Deputies stated that neither speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the collision.
Emergency responders from Spokane Valley Fire and bystanders attempted to help the injured pedestrian, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Spokane Valley Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. Officials said the driver did not see the pedestrian.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner will release the victim’s name after notifying her family
New Year’s Day crash injures drivers
SPOKANE VALLEY – A two-car injury hit-and-run crash on Interstate 90 in Spokane Valley caused lane closures and drew multiple Washington State Patrol (WSP) units to the scene.
The crash happened just east of Argonne Road around 9:37 a.m. Trooper R. Nance responded to the scene to manage the investigation. The right lane of the freeway was closed to traffic, but no detours were required.
Officials reported no evidence of drugs or alcohol being involved in the collision. WSP collision tech Trooper J. Regan and Sgt. C. Bassen were dispatched to assist with the investigation. DOT’s incident response team also arrived to help manage the scene.
Further details, including the identities of the drivers and the natures of the injuries, have not been released yet.
