$19,000 grant funds LED safety lights

Devices visible over 5 miles away

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Spokane Valley Police Department received a grant valued at $19,647 to improve officer safety, officials announced in a press release on Dec. 16.

The grant, awarded by the Spirit of Blue Foundation, provides 131 Guardian Angel Elite Series LED safety lights. These high-powered, hands-free lights offer 360-degree visibility and can be seen from over five miles away.

According to officials, these lights will make deputies and K9s safer, particularly in rural, low-light areas. They will be especially useful in rural parts of Spokane County and Spokane Valley.

Guardian Angel Devices also donated universal mounts, ensuring the lights are versatile and easy to use during patrols.

The need for improved safety comes as a response to rising risks for officers, including fatalities. According to a 2023 National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund report, ten officers were struck and killed by vehicles nationwide while working outside their patrol cards.

The Spirit of Blue Foundation partnered with organizations like Law Enforcement United and the Renee & Gordon Graham Foundation to fund the grant.

The new equipment will be deployed across Spokane County to ensure safe operations for deputies and K9s.
