Blackhawk girls top Jaguars

SPOKANE VALLEY — The Blackhawks girls played a pair of games in the Eagle Holiday Classic at West Valley, where as of deadline, they claimed a 36-30 win over Tri-Cities Prep on Dec. 27 and were scheduled to play Northwest Christian (Colbert) on Dec. 30.

In the win, a third quarter surge where the Blackhawks outscored the Jaguars 13-8, proved to be the difference. Mia Ashcroft led Cheney with nine points.

Cheney boys take a break

CHENEY — The Blackhawks boys took a break from competition following their Dec. 20 non-league game at Gonzaga Prep. They resumed play at Wenatchee in a jamboree featuring Juanita, Jan. 2, Kiona-Benton. Jan. 3 and Post Falls, Jan. 4.

Greater Spokane League play begins for both teams, Jan. 7 at home vs. Lewis and Clark.

Wrestlers medal in Pomeroy

POMEROY — Five Tekoa-Rosalia wrestlers traveled Dec. 28 to the Pomeroy Christmas Tournament. All five came home with medals.

Hunter Fournier claimed silver at boys 106 pounds. Meanwhile, Raeshelle Keatts struck silver at girls 115 pounds.

At girls 130 and 140, Timberwolves Aislinn Gamble and Eleanor Terry each finished third, respectively.

And at girls 190, Alexis Taylor won silver, losing the championship bout to Idaho’s No. 4-ranked Tierney Prather of Potlatch.
