The Cheney boys wrestling team had a pair of statement wins last week.
The Blackhawks won their second Greater Spokane League match 41-29 over Central Valley, Dec. 18 and followed that effort with the win at the West Valley Wrestle Rama Dual, Dec. 20 with a 40-38 decision.

West Valley 62-16.
Going 5-0 on the day were Alex Kurakin, Aiden Carr, CJ Bogle, Kaden Rasmussen and Jackson Syron while Jacob Estock, Cooper French and Gauge Seubert were all 4-1.
“Our theme for the last week has been discipline,” head coach Brian Skaff wrote in an email. “We really showed that today in the way we approached this tournament and the way we wrestled.”
Skaff admitted he and the team did not know what to expect going into Saturday’s tournament.
“Lake City and West Valley have solid teams this year and we knew we would have to have that discipline we have been talking,” Staff said.
At Central Valley Cheney got a pair of crucial late wins for the victor Lake City of Coeur d’Alene.
After CV put together a late surge and won three of four weight classes to draw closer, Cheney got a pair of pins to clinch the 41-29 win.
Juan Tercero (113) uses just 59 seconds to capture the win over Mason McRae and then Aiden Carr (120) prevailed over Devin Gaipo in 1:35.
Cheney had early momentum winning three of the first four bouts starting with Ashton Shepard at 132 pounds taking just 36 seconds to pin Tyler Thompson.
Camron Bogle (138) followed with a pin over Nolan Smith in 1:25 and Ethan Guske (144) won over Aiden Farley in 3:36.
Jackson Syron at 157 pounds topped Emry Smith with another pin in 5:08 and Cooper French (190) scored a 19-4 technical fall over Leo Perez in 2:59.
“This is a nice way to go into Christmas break with a few days off before we resume practice on Thursday (Dec. 26),” Skaff said.
