Drug trafficker gets 10 years in prison

ATF monitored controlled buy

SPOKANE – A Spokane Valley woman has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for illegally distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Shannon Ray Ault, 38, was sentenced on Dec. 17 by U.S. District Judge Mary K. Dimke. In addition to her prison sentence of 10 years, Ault will serve five years of supervised release.

According to court documents, Ault was caught in February of this year when the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) conducted a “controlled buy” of two pounds of methamphetamine. The operation, which was carefully monitored, led to her arrest in Spokane.

At the time of her arrest, Ault had several fentanyl pills in her lap, inside her vehicle. A search of the car revealed $1,627 in cash, an airsoft gun resembling an AR-style rifle, and drug ledgers showing that she had been distributing large quantities of both methamphetamine and fentanyl.

“Ms. Ault was responsible for distributing a significant quantity of deadly drugs into our community,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “My office remains committed to disrupting drug networks and keeping neighborhoods safe.”

ATF Seattle Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Blais stated that Ault’s sentencing was “appropriate,” given the impact of her crimes.

Both the ATF and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation that lead to Ault’s conviction.
