Students shine at winter concert

Holiday songs, jazz, and show tunes

CHENEY – The Cheney High School choirs will perform their Winter Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 10, which will explore the theme of “Connections” through music. The event features five choirs performing pieces that reflect connections with the Earth and the holiday season.

The program includes a variety of styles, such as jazz, choral classics, and musical theater. Highlights feature “Earth Song” by Frank Ticheli, “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind” by John Rutter, and “Jazz Waltz of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” The Ambassador Choir will also perform “A Doo-Wop Christmas,” spotlighting senior singers.

Director Annie Knight expressed pride in the students’ hard work, which has also earned 22 of them spots in the prestigious All State and All Northwest Honors Ensembles. The honors event will be held in Spokane next February, showcasing the singers’ talents alongside peers from multiple states.

“CHS is very proud of the 10 singers selected for the All State Choir, the 8 singers for the All Northwest Treble Choir, the two singers selected for the All Northwest Mixed Ensemble and the two singers selected for the All Northwest Vocal Jazz Ensemble,” said Knight.
