Council introduces $61,000 engineering proposal

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The council considered a $61,000 services agreement supported by a grant from the Department of Ecology for city expansion efforts at the meeting on Monday, Nov. 25.

They discussed the need for expansion, with councilman Hank Bynaker stating, “In 2023, we were able to secure a Department of Ecology grant, and this services agreement is for $61,000.”

He explained how Airway Heights is under financial strain because the grant is only temporary, and asked the council to approve this measure at the city council meeting on Nov. 2.

City to send lobbyist to D.C.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The city plans to send a representative to Washington, D.C., to advocate for city priorities ahead of the state legislative session. Planning Director Heather Trautman brought up the idea of hiring a federal lobbyist at the meeting on Nov. 25.

Council chair Larry Bowman asked if there was any way the council can have a meeting before the Federal Legislature goes into session.

“We need to get our priorities listed, we have to make sure we communicate our priorities,” he said.

Resolution addresses remaining 2024 funds

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The council reviewed a resolution on the allocation of $546,000 in remaining funds from federal and state sources. Stanley Schubert, the Finance Director for the city government presented the resolution at the council meeting last Monday.

“From the Federal Government and the state, we received $2.9 million in 2022,” he explained.

He told the council that the remaining $546,000 needed to be approved

Man arrested for felony harassment

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – Coi D. Bryant, was arrested on Dec. 2 for allegedly threatening someone with a weapon on the 1700 block of South Hayford Road. Officer Taylor with the Airway Heights Police Department made the arrest.

Following the arrest, Bryant was briefly held at Spokane County Jail but was released without posting bond, reported by the jail roster’s booking information.

According to records from Spokane County Superior Court, he is facing two charges: harassment with a threat to kill and harassment involving a weapon.
