Valley hospital earns safety award

SPOKANE VALLEY – MultiCare Valley Hospital has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that rates hospitals for patient safety, announced Kevin Maloney in a newsletter on Nov. 18. Maloney is the media relations manager for MultiCare Health System’s Inland Northwest Region

The grade is based on more than 30 safety measures, including the prevention of medical errors, infections, and injuries. Leapfrog rates hospitals with grades from A to F based on their safety protocols and results.

“This award signifies the highest standard of achievement for patient safety in a hospital,” said Alex Jackson, MultiCare’s chief executive for the Inland Northwest region. “MultiCare Valley Hospital’s team is committed to excellence in our patient care and safety, and today’s achievement exemplifies that.”

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, commended the hospital’s team.

“Achieving an ‘A’ grade means MultiCare Valley Hospital has made a true commitment to put patients first,” she said. “We congratulate the leadership, board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”

MultiCare Health System operates 13 hospitals across Washington and employs more than 26,000 team members.
