Freeman tops in state 2B Soccer

FEDERAL WAY —The Freeman Scotties won the 2024 Washington State 2B Girls Soccer Championship with a 3-0 victory over Mount Vernon Christian on Nov. 23 at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

The girls completed a dominating season with a 3-0 victory over the Hurricanes to claim the state 2B/1B soccer championship, a first for the program.

Junior striker Rylee Russell continued her scoring domination for the Scotties who finished 21-0, scoring twice, including the eventual game winner in the 44th minute that broke a scoreless first-half tie at Memorial Stadium in Federal Way.

Nora Gass added insurance in the 61st minute and Russell capped the day with a goal at 71 minutes.

Kelsey Hollen earned the shutout making 13 saves for Freeman who held opponents scoreless in their five matches.

Freeman earned a berth in the final following their fourth win of the season over Northeast 2B League rival, Northwest Christian, 8-0 on Nov. 22. Gass scored three times and Russell twice with Hollen earning the shutout.

The Scotties capped off an undefeated season with 21 wins and no ties, outscoring opponents 152-12.
