AIRWAY HEIGHTS – A local woman is in jail after allegedly ramming a patrol car several times Nov. 18 and attempting to flee police in a stolen vehicle.
Sadie Marie Brown, 30, is being held on $6,000 bail in the Spokane County Jail. She was initially facing charges of possession of stolen motor vehicle, attempting to elude police, first- and third-degree malicious mischief, obstructing a public official, intimidating a public servant, making a false statement, third-degree theft and possession of a controlled substance on Nov. 19, records show. A day later, the courts added a charge of prisoner in possession of drugs in jail.
Brown is a convicted felon with a valid arrest warrants according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to the arrest, Spokane Regional Emergency Communications issued an alert through the automated license plate reader system, identifying a reported stolen Hyundai Sonata traveling on South Craig Road toward U.S. Highway 2.
A deputy located the vehicle, confirmed the license plate, and followed it while awaiting backup to conduct a traffic stop, records show. Brown pulled into the parking lot of the Heights Motel, 13504 W. Sunset Highway.
Arriving deputies instructed Brown to turn off the car and show her hands, records show. Instead, she put the care in reverse and rammed the patrol vehicle multiple times.
She repeatedly attempted to flee, striking a metal pipe fence, a pile of boulders, and the deputy’s vehicle, records show. The deputy maneuvered his car to pin the Hyundai, limiting Brown’s ability to gain momentum.
As backup units arrived, Brown exited the vehicle, claimed she had a gun, and fled on foot, records show. Deputies pursued and established a perimeter.
Brown, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, eventually entered a motel room and barricaded herself inside, records show. Despite repeated commands to surrender, she refused, claiming to be armed.
Law enforcement prepared for a potential standoff, involving additional help.
Around 7:30 p.m., Brown emerged from the motel room, bleeding from apparent self-inflicted cuts to her arm and appearing disoriented, records show. Officers took her into custody and provided medical assistance. Brown later admitted to ingesting pills inside the room.
A search revealed a clear bag containing suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, powder believed to be fentanyl or cocaine, pills, six cell phones, and other items.
On Nov. 19, Brown was booked into Spokane County Jail on her number of charges and also facing outstanding warrants for third-degree theft, violation of a protection order, and a Department of Corrections community custody escape hold.
