Senior Journal

Series: Senior Journal | Story 3

‘Tis the Season

As the snowy season comes in, scholarship applications are open and ready for you as well as FASFA opening the first of December.

Be ready to start writing those application essays and get all your paperwork filled out. I and many seniors in the area want to pursue nursing; the most common nursing programs in the area are Spokane Community College Nursing program, which applications are open now and Eastern Washington University Nursing program, which applications open Dec. 1.

Many common jobs graduates take are in trade programs. And in the Spokane area, there are a number of different options, such as Spokane Valley Technical College, Spokane Community College, the Northwest HVAC/Refrigeration Association training program, and the Newtech Skills Center.

During the winter, everything starts to feel real, we are half way done without the last year of high school and have to apply for the important programs that can change the course of the rest of our lives.

With this stressful season, we do get a little vacation such as Thanksgiving break and Winter Break! Take this time to relax, spend time with family and focus on the time you have at home before possibly moving away and going to your dream college.

For Running Start Students who go to Eastern Washington University Finals week is from Dec. 7-14, it’s time to study and get ready for a very stressful week. Luckily, we get a month off to enjoy our favorite season.

The best part of this snowy and freezing season is winter sports — basketball, wrestling and cheerleading. The last time well is able to play these sports in school and be able to enjoy the competitive rush us athletes get. So, cheer on your athletes and be ready for a fun season. For the high school event, Cheney High School needs to submit their senior portraits by Dec. 6. We still have time for Rosalia High School!

We are inching closer and closer to graduation, but what do you need? Pick your cap and gown, apply for college, apply for scholarships, apply for FASFA, get programs set up, finish all your required classes, get your volunteer hours done, do your senior project, and depending on your district a few more things.

This long list of requirement that we have to finish in a year is scary and hard to finish at times. Ask for help; reach out to your advisor and teachers for more information. Don’t be scared to ask for help the people around us want to see us succeed and be the best people we can be! Check off your list box by box, it doesn’t need to be done in one day, make yourself a plan and pursue it.
