Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident which resulted into the arrest of Darius L. Denmon, 33, on several felony and misdemeanor charges at a residence on South Assembly Road.
The adult female victim managed to escape with her young children, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries during the ordeal.
Around 1:20 a.m., prior to the domestic violence call, deputies responded to reports of a man knocking on a door of the residences. Denmon, told deputies he was blind, had been dropped off by a cab, and was searching for his girlfriend’s home.
Deputies assisted Denmon to the correct address and confirmed no protection orders were in place. When no one answered the door, deputies contacted Denmon’s mother, who agreed to pick him up. Denmon declined further assistance, and deputies left the scene.
Approximately 90 minutes later, deputies were called back to the same location for a domestic violence report. The victim told deputies Denmon had refused to leave her home, violently assaulted her, attempted sexual assault, and damaged property.
At one point, the victim was holding one of her children during the attack. She ultimately managed to escape with her children and called 911 from a neighbor’s house.
Deputies transported the victim and her children to the hospital for medical evaluation.
When deputies returned to the victim’s residence, Denmon was inside, throwing items through a broken window. After multiple warnings and perimeter control, Denmon surrendered, bleeding from self-inflicted cuts.
He was taken into custody without further incident, provided medical treatment, and informed of his rights. Denmon declined to make a statement.
According to the police reports, the victim explained that Denmon had arrived around 2:00 a.m., claiming he needed to use the bathroom. After she allowed him inside, he refused to leave, claiming his ride was on the way. When she resisted, he began a violent assault, blocking her escape and slamming her against a wall while she held one of her children.
The victim locked herself and her children in a room, but Denmon broke down the door and continued the assault. She feigned unconsciousness, allowing her a chance to flee with her children.
