Troop 356 begins Holiday tree fundraiser

Money raise for the scouts

CHENEY – Boy Scouts Troop 356 will begin their annual Christmas tree sales on Friday, Nov. 29, in the Yoke's Fresh Market parking lot at the corner of Cheney-Spokane Road and 1st Street.

The tradition, which starts the day after Thanksgiving, features a selection of real Noble, Douglas fir, and Grand fir Christmas trees, along with wreaths and specialty hot cocoa for sale, according to Michael Hunt, Troop 356 Scoutmaster.

Proceeds from the sales support troop activities, uniforms, maintenance, and service projects. Additionally, Scouts working the lot earn a prorated share for their individual accounts, helping cover costs for dues, camping trips, and other events.

"Every year, we sell out of our Christmas trees-except last year when we had just one tree left and donated it to a family in need," said Josh Calendine, a parent volunteer.

The trees are sourced from Spokane Boys, and the fundraiser offers more than just financial support. Scouts gain valuable experience by managing the lot, assisting customers, and handling sales.

The lot will be open during the following hours:

• Monday and Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

• Friday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

• Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

For those interested in joining the Scouts, Troop 356 holds regular meetings every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Cheney Congregational Church.
