Local school levy gains voter support

Proposition gains 58.89% voter approval

SPOKANE VALLEY – The West Valley School District's safety and security replacement levy is passing with 58.89% of votes in favor as of Nov. 12. The measure, Proposition No. 1, will help fund important updates and repairs across the district.

According to Spokane County Elections Manager Mike McLaughlin, 11,144 ballots have been counted for this measure so far, with 6,640 votes supporting it and 4,594 against. Another 749 ballots still need to be counted, while 81 ballots were marked as challenged and will need to be verified before being counted. In total, 11,893 ballots were received for the measure as of Tuesday evening.

The levy will generate $3,845,001 in 2025, $3,921,901 in 2026, and $4,000,339 in 2027, with a tax rate maintained at $1.00 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

This levy replaces a previous one that recently expired, and according to the West Valley School Board, the funds will support projects like improving safety entrances at schools, fixing roofs at West Valley High School, and making pick-up and drop-off areas safer at elementary and middle schools.
