Scotties win district championship
Northeast 2B regular season champion Freeman met Goldendale in the opening round of play in the state 2B tournament Nov. 13 at Yakima's Sundome.
The Scotties were riding a five-match winning streak, all by 3-0 scores as they closed out league play before entering post season at the District-6 tournament.
The road to Yakima began Nov. 5 with a home court win against Newport by scores of 25-12, 25-11, 25-14 where Dakota Daines led with 18 assists and 11 assists from Lexie Kennedy.
There was little time to rest with a second-round match with Lind-Ritzville-Sprague following. In that 25-9, 25-12, 25-13 victory Daines had 28 assists while Aspyn Reed had 20 digs and 13 kills.
Freeman dispatched neighboring Liberty of Spangle for the championship, 25-15, 27-25, 25-16 as Daines racked up 28 assists, Avery Boswell 28 digs and Reed 12 kills.
Regardless of the outcome, both teams qualified for state. Freeman enters the tournament at 17-2 while Liberty is 13-6. Goldendale has a 14-5 record and were EWAC West regular season championships.
