SPOKANE – Damian C. Eiffert, 38, of Spokane, appeared in district court on Oct. 25 after allegedly fatally stabbing his father, Robert Eiffert, 61, on October 24 and later instigating a major freeway shutdown.
Eiffert faces a second-degree murder charge and as of Oct. 29, second-degree identity theft charge with bail set at $2 million.
According to court records, Eiffert has an extensive criminal history, including eight felonies and at least five misdemeanors dating back to 2004.
The incident reportedly began on Oct. 23 in East Central Spokane. Witness accounts indicate that Eiffert’s father, Robert, was discovered critically injured and unresponsive in a building doorway. A witness recalled seeing Robert “all cut up” and appearing lifeless after the alleged attack.
According to court documents, Eiffert called another individual shortly after the stabbing, stating he “could not take his dad anymore and stabbed him to death.”
Authorities allege that Eiffert fled the scene in his father’s car and was later tracked by Washington State Patrol officers near the Four Lakes exit on Interstate 90. Officers shut down traffic in both directions and eventually spotted Eiffert in a broken-down vehicle on the freeway.
After barricading himself in the car, reportedly with a gun, Eiffert became uncooperative, making threatening statements toward law enforcement and refusing to exit the vehicle. Then he made moves to flee on foot, but officers were able to apprehend him shortly thereafter.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the cause of death as homicide by sharp force injuries. Further details about the investigation will follow pending additional findings.
