School construction bond now passing

County still has ballots to count

CHENEY – The school constructoin bond, rejected by voters earlier this year, is currently passing with 61.06% approval, amounting to 10,618 votes, as of the latest count on Nov. 12. The bond requires a supermajority of 60% or more to pass.

The votes against Proposition 1 stand at 38.69%, totaling 6,729 votes. Initial election night results on Nov. 5 showed the bond trailing at 59% approval, just below the threshold needed for passage.

Mike McLaughlin, Spokane County Elections Manager, reported the following data from the Nov. 12 update:

• Ballots Counted: 18,207

• Ballots Accepted/Received: 19,969

• Challenged Ballots: 187

• Ballots Left to Count: 1,762

An additional vote tabulation is scheduled for Nov. 12. While Spokane County Election's Office reports that 16,500 ballots remain to be processed across the county, the specific number of Cheney School District ballots left to tabulate is not tracked until they reach the tabulation room, according to Deedra Lage, certified election administrator and registration technician.

On election night, Tuesday Nov. 5, the bond was not passing with only 59% of voters voting to approve it.
