Cheney City Council unanimously approved a pair of ordinances at their Nov. 12 meeting, setting annual increases to the city’s regular property tax and emergency medical services levies.
Medical Lake Citizens Deer Advisory Committee took a couple of steps toward addressing the city’s deer population at ts Nov. 12 meeting.
Cheney High School graduate, Benjamin Newkirk, 39, died last week while climbing the 10,047-foot middle sister mountain in Oregon’s Three Sisters Wilderness west of Bend.

Cuts in the number of police officers patrolling the streets, from seven to six, were among some of the things done to help Medical Lake offer a balanced budget of $6.7 million in 2005.
The Cheney Police Department was provided with $23,000 in the 2005 budget to upgrade to a singular sidearm. This eliminated having officers provide their own weapons, which meant needing to purchase a wide variety of ammunition.
For the third year in a row, the Sacramento State Hornets defeated Eastern Washington University in the Big Sky Conference volleyball tournament at Reese Court, winning 3-1 with scores of 30-21, 22-30, 30-18 and 30-21.

Cheney City Council presented a balanced budget featuring equal income and expenditures of about $4.4 million. The final approval was expected to happen on Dec. 13.
Snowy conditions contributed in part to a number of accidents in the Cheney area, specifically a single-car rollover near Betz and State Route 904.
Three members of the Cheney Blackhawks’ football team were singled out on the All-Frontier League team as most valuable players in their specific position. They included defensive MVP Rick DeMulling, offensive MVP Levi Luhn and Jeremiah Nill, the league’s offensive line MVP.

The EWU administration was awaiting a final recommendation from the Higher Education Coordination Study Committee to determine if Eastern Washington and Washington State universities should merge.
Eastern students were about to be faced with a tuition increase from $1,017 to $1,212. It is possible the bump might be phased in over two years.
Cheney High School sophomore volleyball player Cathy Van Kuren was selected to the All-Frontier League first team.

The Cheney American Legion Post 72 was preparing to celebrate the grand opening of their hall after over three years spent on a remodeling project.
The recently closed Expo 74 in Spokane brought a significant economic impact to Cheney, most notable from the rental of dorm rooms on the EWU campus.

Eastern Washington State College lettermen were preparing to begin their annual door-to-door fund drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Amber School District patrons will go to the polls to vote on paying a portion of the $500,000bond for the new Cheney High School. State law required 40 percent of the turn out in the previous general election to approve the measure by 60 percent in order to pass.
