MEDICAL LAKE – During its last meeting, the School Board conducted a second reading of school improvement plans and parental input policies. They will be addressed on the third reading in its next meeting.
The first policy under review, Board Policy 3241, focused on student discipline.
The district removed references to alternative forms of discipline that had been considered or attempted in the past.
Additionally, it was decided that principals and certified staff at each school would no longer be responsible for developing written discipline procedures; instead, the district will handle this task.
The update includes a directive to follow guidance from Race and Ethnicity Student Data Task Force in separating broader racial categories into more specific sub-racial and sub-ethnic groups.
The second policy, 4130, dealt with Title I, Part A of Parent and Family Engagement.
The policy aims to renew parental input procedures and remove a section that discussed having parent meetings.
The board also approved the surplus of old JROTC boots that no longer match the U.S. Air Force uniform style.
