CHENEY – More than 1,200 children roamed the "Field of Dreams" neighborhood on Halloween night, gathering treats and thrills alike.
The main attraction was "Field of Screams," a haunted castle set between two Victorian homes, drawing eager visitors from across the community.
The castle featured ghostly figures drifting inside, while flashing lights illuminated the eerie decor outside, setting a spine-chilling scene. Kids navigated the haunted passages in pursuit of their ultimate prize: candy.
Homeowners Steve and Kym Grime transformed their property into this spooky spectacle, taking advantage of their home's castle-like features, including turrets that gave it a classic haunted look. "We thought it would be cool to turn our house into a haunted castle," Steve Grime explained. "The Victorian design helped us build the castle facade and add that medieval feel."
The Grimes also brought in "ghosts" from various eras, from medieval times to modern-day specters. Children had to pass through a gate-a rite of passage-before reaching their reward. Occasionally, a scary character would pop out for a quick fright, though the actors made sure to keep their distance.
The haunted castle was a true neighborhood effort, with family members helping build the decor and local neighbors joining in as characters for the night. According to Steve, they're already planning a brand-new theme for next Halloween, promising even more frights for their visitors.
