Threat turns out to be fake
ROCKFORD – Freeman High School administrators initiated a precautionary lockdown on the high school due to a phone threat on Monday.
According to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Mark Gregory, at 11:00 a.m., they were alerted to the threat which was reported through a local crisis line. The School’s Resource Deputy, already present on campus, informed school administrators, who decided to initiate a lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Law enforcement officers from Spokane Valley Police, Washington State Patrol, and other agencies responded quickly, conducting a thorough search of the school and communicating with other district buildings. Authorities ultimately determined that the threat was not credible, and no students or staff were ever in danger.
The investigation into the call and the caller’s identity is ongoing. The Sheriff’s office noted the impact these incidents have on the community, stating that while many threats turn out to be hoaxes, they must be treated as credible until proven otherwise.
Freeman endured a school shooting that killed a student and injured other in 2017.
The call is under investigation.
