City hosts free business workshops

Resources for small businesses

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city is offering two free workshops in November for current and aspiring business owners looking to learn more about licensing, permits, and valuable resources to start or grow a business. The workshops, organized by Spokane Valley and the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, are open to all, whether businesses are brand new or already established.

The first session, City of Spokane Valley Permit Center and Business Licensing, is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 11 am to noon and will be offered exclusively online. Presenters, including Building Official Jenny Nickerson and Business License Specialist Robin Holt, will walk through the process for obtaining city licenses and permits, answering questions about business growth and even government contracting.

Jill Smith, Communications Manager with Spokane Valley, and the city’s economic development team shared, “We see these questions often, so it’s a chance to get a lot of helpful information and ask questions.”

The second workshop, Small Business Resources – Meet the Local Experts, will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 2 to 4 pm at the Spokane Valley Library, with an online attendance option. Participants will hear from agencies including the SBA, Women’s Business Center, SNAP, and SCORE, with information on developing business plans, securing funding, and other core areas.

“The sessions are designed for both new entrepreneurs and established owners, offering tools that many aren’t aware of,” said Smith.

Attendees at both workshops will receive resources and contact information for follow-up support, and recorded versions will be available afterward on the Chamber’s website. Register at the Chamber’s website for in-person or online attendance options.
