Spokane Air Support aids burglary arrests

Air 1 assists in tracking fleeing suspects

SPRAGUE – Spokane Regional Air Support Unit’s Air 1 assisted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in apprehending three burglary suspects at a cell phone tower site Oct. 22.

The incident began when an observant citizen reported a suspicious vehicle to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), noting that it was located near his property and a cell phone tower.

When law enforcement arrived, they discovered signs of unlawful entry into the building and heard voices coming from inside. Deputies successfully apprehended one suspect who exited the building, but two other additional suspects fled on foot into nearby brush. The LCSO then called for assistance from Air 1 and K9 units to locate the fleeing suspects.

Multiple announcements were made for the suspects to surrender, including warnings from Air 1’s PA system regarding the deployment of K9s. With the help of citizens, Air 1, K9 units, and Washington State Patrol troopers, deputies managed to capture both fleeing suspects.

Video footage from Air 1 showed one suspect hiding in dense brush as K9 units and deputies approached. Despite repeated warnings, the suspect remained hidden until the K9 made contact. Deputies arrested him without further incident, and he was given medical attention for minor injuries.

All three suspects were booked into Lincoln County Jail on charges of burglary.
