Joe Noland, City Light Director, has a list of eight projects, totaling an estimated $710,000, included in his $8.73 million budget that he’d like to see accomplished next year. Some projects, such as a $50,000 replacement of old wooden street light poles along State Route 904 from Vine to 2nd streets, have either been cut from previous budgets or delayed due to funding.
Airway Heights at their city council meeting, Airway Heights City Manager Albert Tripp presented the preliminary budget for 2015. One of the focuses for next year’s budget is maintaining and increasing city service. Tripp said the budget uses existing revenues and makes investments to several targeted areas to proved great service to the community.
O’Reilly Automotive, Inc has filed an application with the city to construct a new 7,000-square-foot O’Reilly Auto Parts store on one acre of property located at 2210 1st Street just south of Del’s Farm Supply store.

A standoff between Cheney police and a suspect in a domestic assault ended peacefully after several hours of negotiations as officials talked the suspect out of his house.
The Cheney High School football field saw the installation of the first light poles, part of a $1.3 million upgrade for athletic fields that also included an all-weather track and new scoreboard.
The Medical Lake girls’ cross country team earned an eighth-place finish in the 2A competition at the state championships at Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Course. Ali Nelson (30th at 20 minutes, 37 seconds) and Alyssa Nelson (62nd at 21:47) were the top two Cardinal finishers.

Challenger George Nethercutt staged a huge upset in the race for the 5th District Congressional seat held by Tom Foley, beating the sitting Speaker of the House 50.5 to 49.5 percent or by a margin of 110,057-106,074 votes.
Local car owners would be subject to new and increased fines for parking violations in Cheney. “I think it’s long overdue,” Cheney court administrator Pat Warnick said in announcing doubling of some tickets.
The Eastern Washington University Eagles preparing to face the Boise State Broncos at Woodward Field in a Big Sky Conference football game. The Broncos are fresh from a 38-14 win over number one ranked Montana Grizzlies.

A construction worker was injured in a fall from the roof of the F & M Business Center in Cheney, suffering a broken pelvis and compressed vertebrae.
More than 550 cans of food were collected at the Cheney Halloween Haunted House, a project organized by the Cheney Parks and recreation Department.
Eastern Washington University junior quarterback Rick Worman set svchool records for passing, completing156 of 274 passes for 2,122 yards. He broke yardage records set by Bill Diedrick in 1967.

Implementation of a 15-20 percent increase in annual electrical power rates for the resident of the city of Cheney was to be put off for at least a month.
Fire destroyed the Jerue Funeral Home in Medical Lake. The building, originally constructed in 1900, originally housed a drug store and meat market.
Eastern Washington started out the current football season 0-4, but were now riding a four-game winning streak and hoped to finish 5-4 should they defeat Montana School of Mines in Butte.
