Felts Field to host Air Race Classic

Women pilots to compete in 2025

SPOKANE – Historic Felts Field in Spokane has been named the finish line for the 2025 Air Race Classic (ARC), a major transcontinental race for women. The race, beginning on June 17, 2025, in Fairhope, Alabama, spans 2,106 nautical miles and includes 12 stops before ending at Felts Field. This marks the first time that a Washington Airport has been chosen as the terminus for the race.

Felts Field, an aviation hub with over a century of history, has previously hosted renowned aviators such as Charles Lindbergh and Dorothy Fowler.

“This race adds to our rich aviation tradition and inspires future pilots,” said Spokane Airport Board Chair Ezra Eckhardt.

The ARC is a test of skill, where women pilots use flight planning and strategy to win by surpassing their plane’s handicap. Each team must use visual flight rules and complete the course within four days. The team that exceeds their handicap by the largest margin is declared the winner.

Larry Krauter, Spokane Airports CEO, said, “We are honored to host the race at Felts Field and celebrate the accomplishments of the participants.”

The ARC is open to women pilots of all skill levels, with teams requiring a minimum of two members. Pilots must have at least 100 hours of flying experience, and registration for the 2025 race opens on Jan. 2, 2025. More information is available at AirRaceClassic.org.
