Kodiaks maul Cardinals, 42-14

Cascade scores early and often

MEDICAL LAKE - It was a Homecoming game to forget, as the visiting Cascade Kodiaks from Leavenworth mauled the Cardinals, 42-14, on Friday, Oct. 18.

The Kodiaks (4-2) opened scoring on their first possession of the game, when senior quarterback Will Biebesheimer called his own number, broke off tackle and raced into the end zone. Cascade tacked on the extra point to take a 7-0 lead.

But while that opening salvo set the stage for the night, it was the Kodiaks' next two touchdowns that closed the deal.

With 1:28 left to go in the first quarter, Biebeshiemer added six more points when he completed a pass to sophomore wide receiver Eli Webb, who outran the Cardinals to the end zone. And with another PAT, Cascade suddenly lead 14-0.

Cardinal senior Dakotah Phillips was back deep on the ensuing kickoff. Catching the ball, he raced up the center of the field and into a swarm of Kodiaks.

In the blink of an eye, the action was heading the other way as Cascade sophomore Tristian Sharp stripped the ball and sprinted 41 yards for another Kodiak TD.

The first quarter ended 21-0.

The Kodiaks would expand the lead by the same margin in the second quarter.

Senior running back Arthur Northrup scored on a 5-yard dive with 1:32 left in the half and again from 6 yards out with 8:15 on the clock. Both PATs were good and the Kodiaks had a commanding 35-0 lead.

The final score for the Kodiaks came when sophomore Julian Feeney picked up a Medical Lake fumble at his own 47-yard line and, with nobody in front of him, scored on a 53-yard gallop. The PAT was good and the Kodiaks had a 42-0 lead.

The Kodiaks had one more shot to score in the second quarter when the marched down the field, but kicker Milo Gibbs missed a 13-yard field goal as time ran out.

In the second half, the Kodiaks substituted their backup players, giving Medical Lake an opening to score twice.

But there wouldn't be a rally, and the game ended 42-14.

Individual statistics were not reported for the game.

The Cardinals (1-6) are home again this Friday, hosting 2-4 league nemesis Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls).

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Eagles are coming into the game after a 44-23 win over the NEA's Riverside (Chattaroy) Rams.
