Cheney's victory way out of reach, 0-42

Mead shuts down the Blackhawks

CHENEY - Mead's undefeated co-leaders started strong and scored a dominating 42-0 Greater Spokane League football win over Cheney, Oct. 18 at Tom Oswald Field.

"We only had 73 yards of total offense and didn't get a first down until late in the fourth quarter," head coach John Graham wrote in an email. "We couldn't find a way to move the ball."

The Panthers, 7-0 and co-leaders with Gonzaga Prep, had just about everything going for them in front of a Cheney Homecoming crowd, except for missing three point-after tries.

Mead's Keegan Mallon scored twice in the first quarter, three times overall, and added 179 yards rushing. The Panthers led 28-0 at halftime following a 70-yard interception return from Landon Thomas.

"The interception return for a TD right before half was a killer," Graham said.

Blackhawks total yards was 73 with 36 passing and 37 rushing as the Panthers racked up 386 with 98 in the air and 288 on the ground.

Cheney had two fumbles and one interception for the night as Mead tallied four fumbles.

Cheney (1-6) travels to University (1-6) on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
