Cheney dementia friends information session

CHENEY – Become a Dementia Friend and help create a dementia-friendly community. This session will provide you with information about dementia, what it’s like to live with, and how you can support people affected by dementia. Participants will receive a Dementia Friends Certificate.

• When: Thursday, Oct. 24 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

• Location: Meeting Room, Cheney Library

• Audience: Adults (18+), Adults (50+)

World Cooking: Mediterranean Food

This event has been rescheduled to Dec. 4. Registration is required. Registered participants will receive the recipe and ingredients list prior to the presentation, allowing them to purchase and prepare the ingredients in advance to cook along with the chef. Chef Susan from Gabe’s Gourmet Foods will demonstrate the preparation of a traditional Mediterranean dish during an online presentation, while sharing insights about Mediterranean culture.

LINC outreach in Spangle

SPANGLE – Join representatives from LINC for this outreach event designed to connect the community with resources, particularly for those seeking housing assistance, employment resources, or support navigating state benefits.

• Where: Harvester Restaurant, Spangle (410 W 1st St, Spangle, WA 99031)

• Audience: Adults (18+)

Seed saving in Cheney

CHENEY – The library invites all to discover the time-honored gardening tradition of seed saving during a workshop that offers attendees the techniques to identify, harvest, and store seeds.

This seminar is presented by Steve Nokes, a Master Gardener with Washington State University, and a volunteer.

• When: Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

• Where: Cheney Library Meeting Room

• Audience: Adults (18+)

Medicare open enrollment one-on-one session in Cheney

CHENEY – Schedule a one-on-one counseling appointment with a Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisor (SHIBA) volunteer by calling (509) 777-1592. The library reminds attendees to bring their Medicare card and a list of current prescriptions to the appointment.

Costs and coverage for Part D plans and the Medicare Advantage plan can change every year, so it is important to review plans for 2025. Any changes attendees wish to make must bee submitted during the open enrollment period: Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2024. Trained SHIBA volunteers can help attendees research, assess, and evaluate which options work best for attendees’ needs.
