Woman wakes to intruder in home

Drunken suspect claims he was shot

SPOKANE VALLEY – A local woman was startled awake on October 9, when she discovered a male intruder in her home, prompting the suspect to flee the scene. The incident occurred near North Adams and East Riverside Lane in Spokane Valley. Deputies located the suspect in a nearby driveway after a second caller reported suspicious activity.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Autin M. Kelly, appeared intoxicated and made claims of being beaten and shot, though no gunshot wounds were found. He was arrested for residential burglary and malicious mischief.

Around 12:35 am on Wednesday morning, the woman heard the suspect outside her bedroom door, initially mistaking him for her son. When she opened the door, the suspect raised his hands and fled. She quickly woke her son and called 911, while deputies found that her front door had been forced open.

Spokane County Deputies and Liberty Lake Police Officers assisted Spokane Valley Deputies in establishing a perimeter and conducting a search.

About one hour later, a nearby resident reported seeing a suspicious man in her driveway. Deputies responded and found Kelly, who matched the description of the intruder.

Kelly received medical treatment due to his intoxicated state before being transported and booked into Spokane County Jail.
