Idaho arrest for fatal Spokane shooting

HAYDEN, Idaho – Spokane County detectives arrested Johnathan M. Bryan, 43, for the fatal shooting of 53-year-old William McCreight, which occurred on October 12 in Spokane Valley.

Bryman was apprehended without incident on Oct. 14 at a residence in Hayden, Idaho, with the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies.

Bryman fled the scene of the shooting and was found in Hayden, Idaho on Oct. 14, and peacefully arrested by police. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Spokane County.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office reported that Bryman met McCreight in the Spokane Valley Safeway parking lot, located at East Trent Avenue and North Argonne Road in Spokane Valley on Oct. 12 during a possible drug deal. At some point during the interaction, Bryman allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot McCreight. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing McCreight lying on the ground before the suspect fled the scene in the behicle.

Deputies responded to the shooting at approximately 6:15 am, where they attempted life-saving measures, including CPR. However, McCreight was pronounced dead at the scene. The Spokane Medical Examiner later identified McCreight and determined the cause of death to be homicide by gunshot.

Detectives quickly identified Bryman as the suspect. Probable cause was established for charging Bryman with second-degree murder, and he was classified as a fugitive from justice.

He was located at a residence near North Maple Street and Rapatti Way in Hayden, Idaho, and taken into custody without conflict.

Bryman was apprehended thanks to assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and the U.S. Marshals. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including potential motives and the events leading up to the confrontation. Further charges or arrests may follow.
