Freeman soccer continues to roll

FREEMAN — The Freeman Scotties and Rylee Russell continued to burn up the Northeast 2B league in soccer scoring an 11-0 win over Newport at Freeman.

In that contest, Russell scored six times, giving her 31 goals, the most in the state and across all classifications according to coach Dave Ellis.

Nora Gass opened scoring at the 2-minute mark and Russell followed with five consecutive goals between the sixth and 19th minute.

Freeman (7-0 NE2B, 10-0 overall) had an 8-0 halftime lead with goals from Phyllis Prosser and Emily Jensen. Aubrey Gregory, Russell and Prosser capped Scotties’ scoring in the second half.

Freeman outshot Newport (0-4, 1-6) 33 to 1 with goalie Claire Poulsen recording one save and the shutout.

The Scotties played at Northwest Christian on Oct. 17 against a team they had to rally from a 3-1 first half deficit to win 4-3 on Sept. 24.
