Council to update comp plan

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – City officials on Monday approved a contract with Framework to begin the 2026 comprehensive plan update.

The update will assess citywide planning efforts, particularly the city’s 20-year transportation and land-use strategy.

City Public Works Director Heather Trautman emphasized the importance of this periodic review to ensure growth and development align with the cities’ long-term vision. The update will be funded state Department of Commerce grants.

“This comprehensive plan ensures we’re not just growing, but growing smart,” Trautman said.

In addition to approving the comprehensive plan update, the council also approved a contract to receive grant funding from the state Department of Commerce to pay for it.

The grant will ensure that Airway Heights has the resources needed to complete its long-term planning and sustainability efforts, Trautman said.

Council Chairman Larry Bowman clarified that this contract is distinct from others previously approved, but necessary to ensure financial backing for the upcoming update process.
