Cheney Schools' plan for boundary changes

If bond passes, all boundaries will need to be redrawn

CHENEY — If Cheney School District’s bond measure passes, the district will redraw its elementary school boundaries to accommodate a new school in Airway Heights, moving students out of portable classrooms. The district also hopes to address overcrowding at existing schools, such as Sunset Elementary, which has a large student population.

At the Oct. 9 board meeting, Finance Director Jamie Reed said, “If the bond passes, there will be a new elementary school in Airway Heights. It’ll require all boundaries to be redrawn.”

Reed mentioned that the geography of the district plays a significant role in these boundary decisions, especially for families living in remote areas. “Geography will probably always play into that. It’s truly about how far it is to drive,” she explained.

The district plans to minimize the impact on families, but Reed said building a new school will bring the largest changes to the district’s current boundaries.
