Special educator joins Hallet Elementary team
MEDICAL LAKE – Amy Tuman, Hallet Elementary School, grew up in Kirkland and graduated from Central Washington University. She spent 22 years teaching special education at East Valley School District in Yakima.
She supports third and fifth grade students with intervention and inclusion as a special educator. She said Teaching has always been a passion rooted in her childhood experiences and a desire to make a real difference in people's lives.
She met and married her husband, Russ at Central. They currently have two grown kids and one very spoiled Shih Tzu nickname June B.
When Tuman was a kid, she would play teacher with her younger siblings on a blue chalkboard.
She said, "They would probably joke I was being a bossy big sister but teaching is deeply ingrained in who I am and truly has my heart."
She added, "I love making a meaningful impact on students who struggle with learning and providing them with a safe, caring space."
Tuman said the reason she came to Medical Lake School District was a job change for her husband. The moment she arrived, she felt a connection.
She concluded, "The district's values resonate with my own and it already feels like family, here."
