Freeman XC places 2nd at Tuesday's league meet

FREEMAN – The Freeman Scotties put on a competitive showing at their third league meet on Tuesday, securing second place in both the boys’ and girls’ cross country races on their home course.

Valley Christian swept the meet, taking first in both divisions with 33 points in the girls’ race and 21 points in the boys’ race.

Leading the way for Freeman’s girls were freshman Emma Dryer, who finished fifth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 22:37.30. Close behind, senior Ava Mounts took seventh place, clocking in at 23:10.00. Senior Ella Jones finished eighth with a time of 23:44.10, followed by junior Maris Vernon in 14th place at 25:06.70. Senior Madelyn Smith secured 17th place with a personal best time of 25:33.00.

On the boys’ side, freshman Josiah Kann delivered a strong performance, finishing seventh with a time of 18:04.20. Junior Eli Cotton was right on his heels, placing eighth with a time of 18:10.40. Sophomore Oliver Jones came in 14th at 18:48.60, while junior Josiah Bessie and sophomore Owen Offereins finished 22nd and 23rd, with times of 19:54.20 and 19:59.00, respectively.

The Scotties now look ahead to the Northeast 2B League Championships, set for October 18 at the Reardan Cross Country Course.
