SPOKANE VALLEY — Four people were injured in a serious three-car crash on State Highway 27, about five miles south of the city on Friday morning.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened at around 11:08 a.m. when a northbound car crossed the center line near Darknell Road and collided with two southbound vehicles. The crash blocked both directions of the highway.
Trooper Andrew Derr, who was at the scene, said the driver of the car that crossed the line, identified as Paulino Albious, 29, of Spokane, was transported to Deaconess Hospital. Albious is facing charges of vehicular assault.
A passenger in his car, 25-year-old Manutil Manutil of Spokane Valley, was also injured and taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center.
The drivers of the two other cars, Lara Isadore, 45, of Spokane, and Donald Harris, 71, of Fairfield, were also injured. Isadore was taken to Valley Hospital, while Harris was transported to Sacred Heart.
Authorities confirmed that all four people were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Troopers are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Fire and medical crews responded to the scene, and the Washington State Department of Transportation set up detours as crews worked to clear the wreckage. The highway remained fully blocked for several hours.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
