Liberty wins homecoming with shut-out

SPANGLE – Liberty Lancers wins their homecoming game against Davenport Gorillas, 18-0 last Friday night.

Liberty Coleman Tee ran for eight yards to score the first touchdown of the night as Viliami Finau kicked the extra point in the first quarter putting the score at 7-0.

Prior to the ending of the second quarter, Liberty defense scored a safety by sacking the ball carrier behind the goal line. The half-time score was 9-0.

The third quarter was scoreless for both teams.

In the fourth quarter, Liberty Donald Howegner threw a four-yard pass to Tee to add another six points to the scoreboard. The two-point conversion after that play failed, setting the score at 15-0.

The final play to put the nail in the score for Liberty was a 27-yard field goal thus giving the game its final score.

Liberty Donald Howegner threw for 58 yards as he threw to Tee for 52 of those yards. Maddex Strobel rushed for 100 yards as the team collectively put-up a total of 263 yards for the night.

Davenport Bennett Wagner threw for 51 yards as Joel Odenrider received 44 of those yards. The team collectively put-up 192 yards.

The top tackler of the night was Hunter Carter with one sack, seven tackles where three of them were for a loss and three assists.

Liberty will be traveling to Colfax to take on the Bulldogs on Friday night at 7 p.m.
