Cross Country

Warm-up for Card runners

TACOMA —Medical Lake cross country emerges from a rare week off from competition by participating in the HOKA 28th John Payne XC Invitational at Chambers Creek Properties Central Meadow near Tacoma. Oct. 6.

That race will help prepare the Cardinals for the start of Northeast A League competition, Oct. 9 at Colville.

Football

Lancers edge Bulldogs, 7-6

KETTLE FALLS — The Liberty Lancers from Spangle edged Kettle Falls, 7-6, in a Class 2B football matchup.

The Lancers (2-2) stay home this week to face the winless Davenport Gorillas. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Liberty, 6404 E. Spangle-Waverly Road.

Davenport is coming off a 33-13 loss to Colfax.

Freeman ranked No. 4

FREEMAN — The Freeman Scotties are ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 2B football in the most recent Associated Press poll.

The Scotties this season dropped out of the Northeast A league, in which Medical Lake still plays, to the Classs 2B ranks.

Freeman (3-1) lost last Friday to undefeated Asotin.

This week, they travel to Nine Mile Falls to take on the 1-3 Lakeside Eagles. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Slow Pitch

Cheney pitch earns first win

CHENEY — Cheney High School slow pitch coach Makayla Shay earned her first win on Sept. 24 when the Blackhawks defeated North Central 17-1

Notable in the game was Kierra Montemayor who had an inside-the-park grand slam, Ren Schaber with a 2-run RBI double. Allie Halverson a pair of RBIs, while Sierra Mendoza and Reese Scholle both went 3-for-3.

Volleyball

Liberty tops Lions, Panthers

SPANGLE — The Liberty girls volleyball team notched two wins last week, sweeping both opponents.

The girls topped adjacent Upper Columbia Academy, 3-0, on Sept. 24, then swept Asotin, 3-0, on Sept. 26.

Liberty girls hit the court three times this week.

They played Tuesday night against Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and are scheduled to play Colfax at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Cusick at 11 a.m. Saturday.
