County breaks ground for new park

GEIGER HEIGHTS – A ground-breaking ceremony on the planned 10-acre Camas Meadow Community Park on West Melville Road, across the street from The Plains Golf Course, took place on Sept. 25.

Plans for the $6 million park include a playground, baseball and soccer fields, piccolo court and shelters for picnics and events. The funds come from a federal American Rescue Plan Act grant awarded to Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Golf Department last year.

“Once we found it, we dedicated it to this project,” District No. 5 County Commissioner Al French said. “That was two years ago. And here we are for the ground breaking.

“This time next year, there will be kids playing on the fields.”

Garco Construction began work following the ceremony and expect to have the park complete by fall of 2025.

Spokane County Parks and Recreation and Golf Director Doug Chase said construction of the park features will begin in the spring.
