Cheney Market owner encouraging students

CHENEY — With a giant inflatable Eagle and new signage, you can’t miss the new Cheney Market at 1902 First St.

But with your focus on the products Manjot Singh sells, you may overlook his reasoning for opening a business here.

Singh said he opened the new convenience store here in an effort to inspire and encourage university students coming to Cheney, as well as improve the lives of every resident.

And Singh said his experience in retail business will help him accomplish his goals.

“My hope to accomplish with this business is to provide the betterment of the college kids who come from different cities and different states, and also for Cheney residents,” he said, noting his convenience store is open 24 hours to do just that.

“We are open 24 hours,” he said. “So, if anyone ever need anything, they know we are there for them and provide them with all the stuff they need under one roof.”

Being open and available 24 hours a day is just the start.

Our aspirations are to make a place in the hearts of Cheney residents, he said, adding, “So tomorrow, when we are not here, they will remember us.”

That desire is the impetus for the Cheney Market name.

“We will give our 100% to be high on people’s hopes and expectations, and become their neighborhood friendly store,” he said.

Singh said he never thought he would own his own store.

But he has spent his entire life in the retail industry. That has paid off in knowledge, experience and now store ownership.

“Working at a store since childhood paid off and made me be able to do Cheney Market,” he said. “And now, I am going to follow my passion and do my best to bring a smile to each customer’s face.”

Singh said he’s appreciative of his new customers and the community at large.

“I want to say thanks,” he said. “I appreciate all the people of Cheney supporting us.”
