Cheney Farmers Market

CHENEY – The Farmers Market group will be hosting a farmers market at Veterans Memorial Park on 4th Street across the street from the fire station on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This market features a wide range of vendors offering locally grown produce, flowers, raised meat, jams, scratch-made baked goods, tinctures, handcrafted arts, crafts jewelry and more.

Homecoming Fireworks

CHENEY – Eastern Washington University will be hosting a fireworks show following the football game on Roos Field on Oct. 19 between 7 to 8 p.m. depending on the ending of the game. The show starts 15 minutes after the final game whistle blows.

The fireworks will be launched from the practice field, just west Eastern’s soccer field and the display will last 15 minutes.

Tree Planting Event

CHENEY – Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge will host their annual tree planting event on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

They are celebrating National Public Lands Day and National Wildlife Refuge Week with this shared stewardship event, according to their news flyer. This is a free event.

Coat Drive

CHENEY – Cheney Helping Cheney Community Coat Drive is accepting new coats only at businesses and churches in Cheney.

Distribution will be on Oct. 26 at the Wren Pierson Community Center on C Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A second distribution will be on Oct. 28 at Cheney Cupboard under Wren Pierson in the back on 3rd Street from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

There is no qualifying criteria to get coats. Anyone who wants or needs coats can get them.

Cheney Historic Preservation Commission

CHENEY – Historic Preservation Commission meets on Oct. 3 at 5:15 p.m. at city hall council chambers, 609 2nd Street.

The commission will cover updates to the comprehensive plan for historic preservation best practices as old business.

On new business, they will cover the reconfiguration of wireless antennas on roof of school house lofts at 520 4th Street. Also, they will have guest speaker, Certified Local Government Coordinator of Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, Michelle Thompson to recognize architectural styles and significant features.
