Ferris girls soccer team tops Cheney

Stimpson scores Saxons’ winning goals

SPOKANE — Cheney led early, but Ferris scored the game’s final two goals — the second in overtime — to earn a 2-1 win in the opening girls soccer contest of Greater Spokane League play, Sept. 23 at ONE Spokane Stadium.

Addison Mink scored for the Blackhawks (0-1 GSL, 2-2 overall) in the 38th minute, but Lexi Simpson tied the game at the 53rd minute and winning goal for the Saxons in the 87th minute.

With a goal and a pair of assists from Kayelee Kohlman, Cheney notched its second shutout of the non-league season, 5-0 at home against 1A Colville, Sept. 17.

Molly Domrese scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at the three-minute mark. Kinley Collins (32 minutes) and Raimee Gleason (36 minutes) added other first-half goals. Victoria Baycroft and Kayelee Kohlman scoring two minutes apart (48 and 50 minutes) in the second.

Kiah Klauss started in goal, played for 60 minutes before being swapped for Ally Kohlman who completed the game in goal and sharing the shutout.

The Blackhawks had a rematch with Ferris, which won a win-league contest, 3-0, on Sept. 23 at ONE Spokane Stadium.

They were at Mt. Spokane, Sept, 25 and home vs. Lakeside, Sept. 26.
