District responds to social media threat

CHENEY — Cheney Public Schools addressed a social media threat involving “CHS” over the weekend, assuring the community that the situation does not pose a credible danger to students or staff.

The district was alerted to the threat on Saturday, Sept. 14, and immediately contacted the Airway Heights Police Department to investigate. According to a statement from the district’s communications coordinator, Jenna Larson, officials quickly determined the threat was not credible.

“We appreciate the communication of our community and the partnership with our YES Officers and Airway Heights Police Department,” Larson said in the statement released Sunday, Sept. 15.

The district confirmed that school operations will continue as normal for the start of the fourth week of the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, Sept. 16.

No further details about the threat were released, but district officials emphasized the importance of community vigilance in reporting concerns.
