Council approves water agreement with Spokane

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The City Council approved two key agreements with the City of Spokane during its September 3 meeting, paving the way for a new water source to meet future demands. The agreements are part of a $14.9 million capital project aimed at securing additional water capacity for Airway Heights through 2035.

“This is a pretty big deal,” said Councilman Davin Perry, highlighting how long the project has been in the works. Both motions passed unanimously.

Council agrees to support school bond

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The Airway Heights City Council unanimously supported Cheney Public Schools’ Proposition No. 1, which is seeking voter approval for a bond measure. The bond would help fund the construction of a new elementary school and purchase land for a future middle or high school.

“Cheney is asking the community to reconsider their vote and support this important measure,” said City Manager Albert Tripp.

The bond previously failed to pass but is being reintroduced to address the growing needs of the school district.

City amends municipal code for transportation hub

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – During the September 3 City Council meeting, City Manager Albert Tripp discussed a new amendment to the municipal code to support the development of a transportation hub. The city has applied for several grants to fund the project but has yet to secure the necessary funding.

“This amendment will make it easier for Airway Heights to gain approval from agencies providing grants,” Tripp explained. The hub is expected to support future infrastructure growth in the region.

Council approves accounting position

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The City Council approved the creation of a new accounting position within the Finance Department during its September 3 meeting. The department has seen an increase in workload, and City Manager Albert Tripp noted that Walmart funding would partially cover the cost of the position.

The council voted 4-1 in favor of the new position, with additional funding expected through future grants and the 2025 budget.

City approves sale of properties on Lundstrom Street

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The City Council voted unanimously on September 3 to approve the sale of two properties located on South Lundstrom Street and West Sunset Highway. City Manager Albert Tripp explained that these properties no longer serve a purpose for the city, and relisting them would allow the city to collect offers.

The council also passed Resolution 2024-22, authorizing the sale.
